NEW: Three men arrested in Texas after shooting a youth baseball coach during a pregame prayer, local media reports.

The suspects, identified as Mahmood Abdelsalam Rababah, 23, Ahmad Mawed, 21, and Mustafa Mohammad Matalgah, 27, were arrested by the Waller County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say the men were firing guns from a nearby pasture toward the baseball field.

The coach was shot in the shoulder while praying with his team before the game. Houston Warriors founder Andy Baize told KHOU 11, “He literally took the bullet for a child to his left, preventing a major tragedy. It’s still very emotional.”

The field, known as 'The Rac,' stated the men were “target practicing” 600-700 yards away. “People often shoot on their land. We were unaware of any activities in season at the time. We now know three individuals were target practicing,” they posted on Facebook, per NBC.

The coach was airlifted to a hospital and has been released.

The suspects face felony charges of deadly conduct with a firearm.

Local residents Perry Lewis and Lerrssy Frausto acted quickly, rescuing the baby girl, found face down in the trash.
“She saved herself with her cries. Her God-given voice carried 40, 50 feet to my neighbor,” Lewis said.
The infant was taken to a hospital and is reported to be safe and in good health, per CBS Austin.
