Eight Inmates Remain at Large Following New Orleans Jailbreak
Authorities are still searching for eight escaped inmates, including four convicted of second-degree murder, after they broke free from a New Orleans jail. The men fled through a hole behind a toilet in their cell, using blankets to scale a barbed wire fence before making their way to nearby railroad tracks and eventually the freeway.
Police have released footage showing the inmates as they made their escape, and officials suspect that they may have received inside assistance. "We have indications that these detainees had help from within our department," said Sheriff Susan Hutson. "It's almost impossible—though not completely—for anyone to get out of this facility without outside assistance."
The missing inmates include Corey Boyd, Lenton Vanburen, Jermaine Donald, and Derrick Groves, all convicted of second-degree murder. Authorities continue efforts to track them down.
