NEW: Elderly Woman Shoots Neighbor with Flare Gun in Retirement Community Dispute

In a Long Island retirement community, 76-year-old Kathleen Schuman shot her 67-year-old neighbor Richard Catrone in the face with a flare gun, escalating a months-long feud. Catrone, struck in the cheek, required six stitches after being hospitalized.

“I knocked the gun from her hand to protect myself and my dog. She tried to pick it up again,” Catrone recounted. “Kathleen showed no remorse, called me the devil, claimed I tried to murder her, and said, ‘I’m sorry I missed.’”

Neighbors report the conflict stemmed from ongoing disputes over their pets. “He kept harassing her, saying her cat upset his dog.
