Hot pitching prospect Brandon Sproat is , but the Mets need to see more from the righty before he gets a green light to the majors for September call-ups. Before the Mets game against the Marlins on Friday night, president of baseball operations David Stearns praised Sproat, who recently landed , but cautioned against lofty expectations. I think hes had about as good as a minor league season as you can po sibly have, Stearns said. I think hes throwing more strikes. Hes rounded out his arsenal. Hes improved his change up. Getty Images In his first start he allowed six earned runs and the second start saw Sproat pitch three innings and allow one earned run before he was ejected for arguing a call with the home plate umpire. Though a call-up in two weeks isnt completely off the table, the Mets need to see more of Sproat at the Triple-A level before he makes his way to Queens. Whatever that path may look like, Sproat has said he is open to any role, even if that means being used out of the bullpen instead of joining the rotation to help the Mets where theyre hurting.
