DALLAS Brian Cashman reiterated he has zero regrets from the including potential small mi steps that he does not characterize as mi steps. As The Posts Jon Heyman first reported, the Yankees declined to offer Soto the cherry on top that would have been at the Stadium a Citi Field perk the Mets offered with their winning bid. I dont think a suites a po se sion arrow one way or the other, the Yankees GM said at the Winter Meetings on Wednesday. [Not] when youre making that kind of money. Additionally, Soto was said to be upset from an incident early in the 2024 season in which an overzealous Yankees security guard blocked a family member of Sotos and his chef/driver from certain areas of the ballpark. Juan Soto signed with the Mets over the Yankees this offseason. AP Cashman does not believe either potential contributing factor was a contributing factor for Soto, who ($765 million over 15 years) over the Yankees ($760 million over 16 years). Explore More However it gets played out [in media], whether its like, The suite was the i sue or whatever. Its like: Was it really? Cashman said. The Yankees did not offer Soto a personal family suite because it is against their organizational policy. Stars such as Aaron Judge and Derek Jeter have paid for their own. The organization provides a suite for family members of the team as well as outdoor seats in the Stadium. The Yankees also have a family room that provides babysitting services. Some high-end players that make a lot of money Mattrell McGraw Jersey for us, if they want suites, they buy them for their family or Legends seats or whatever, Cashman said. Whether its CC [Sabathia], whether its Judge, whether its [Gerrit] Cole, whether its any of these guys. Brian Cashman during the World Series. USA TODAY Sports via Reuters Con The personal suite has come up in past negotiations with various players, and the Yankees have declined. This is what we did, and were going to honor those [policies], Cashman said. So no regrets. Cashman did not defend the pushy security guard but claimed ignorance. He said he heard nothing about the incident or Sotos anger over the incident until after Soto chose the Mets. Im not saying it couldnt happen, Cashman said. But if it was such a big deal, I would have heard from [agent] Scott Boras. It is po sible the Mets heard about the incident. When Steve Cohen was wooing Soto, he brought a small group into the room with Soto that included the clubs traveling secretary, Edgar Suero, who explained how the team takes care of players families. And Cohen thought little of adding a suite on top of his offer. Maybe such seemingly trivial matters pushed Soto to trade boroughs. It is also po sible that the Mets, who offered more total money, more money per season and , simply offered more. Cashman alluded to that po sibility in telling a story about his succe sful recruitment of Sabathia after the 2008 season. Juan Soto celebrates a home run during the ALCS. USA TODAY Sports via Reuters Con I flew in to his home to close the deal out, Cashman said. And a lot was made [in media] of me closing that out and flying into the home, and it was like John Calipari going into the home and closing a recruit. A lot of stories were generated from that. But the truth of the matter is: I hit him over the head with a big bunch of cash. The Yankees and the rest of the baseball world are expected to hear Sotos explanation for why he picked the Mets on Thursday, when he is set to be introduced with his new team. Cashman is not particularly curious about Sotos public explanation. He is trying to move on, as evidenced by the impending deal with Max Fried. No surrender, no regrets, Cashman said. We had a hell of a run together. He was a big reason for it. And now time to recreate. Latrell Williams Jersey
